November marks the 100th anniversary of the discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb – the inspiration for my latest early reader Pharaoh’s Treasure.
Howard Carter’s Egyptian search is a tale of courage, setbacks and intrigue. The discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb sparked global interest in the 1920s and still fascinates today. The discovery of the ‘boy King’ with the vast collection of thousands of objects including jewellery, chariots and statues ended a six-year search and it is this search which I found the most fascinating. It is a search which demonstrates perseverance and courage to keep going when all seems lost and what child (or adult) doesn’t love a hunt for buried treasure!
