Bio

Amanda BrandonI wanted to be a writer from the age of seven but was told to aim for ‘a proper job’. I thought working in a library would be the answer.

A spell as a school librarian put paid to that idea when I was told off for reading books instead of putting them away. Now I spend my time creating my own stories and raising a family.

My first picture book A Scarf and a Half was published by Maverick Arts Publishing in September 2014. It was followed by a second in the Granny Mutton series A Box of Socks followed by A Knit and a Knot. The books celebrate the special relationship between a granny and grandson.

I believe grandparents can play an important role in creating happy childhood memories. I had a special bond with my grandmother. Like the character Granny Mutton in my book she enjoyed knitting and every Christmas my brother and I would receive a pair of handmade gloves.

I love reading books to my own children and in the past I have helped with literacy work in school. I like to encourage children to discover a love for words and to find books which entertain and inspire them to keep on reading.
