So how many books did you manage to read this summer?
This year A Scarf and a Half was picked for The Reading Agency’s summer reading challenge which aimed to keep youngsters reading through the holidays. The theme was Record Breakers and I visited Maldon library and Baron’s Court Primary School as part of their efforts to persuade children to keep up the reading habit.
It was great to see so many children enthusiastically taking part. These days technology and other activities compete for their time but reading improves children’s literacy skills and widens their imagination.
Establishing a reading habit is not just for the young. To show that books matter parents need to read too. Why not find time as a family to explore your local library together? Best of all it’s FREE!
